MIXED BABIES
The duration of the creation process for this collection felt very personal to me. this is the first time that I worked on pieces intuitively, without a plan or goal, I was just creating experimenting and practicing on the wheel everyday to get better with clay ofc but also because I was going through some of the most turbulent feelings inside. It was some deep inner child healing and the things I was experiencing, the emotions that I was navigating and processing, I came to see them as my lil babies. Each one of them represents a complex aspect of myself that needed to be tended to, nurture and the kind of deep mental and emotional affection. That is how the name “Mixed Babies” came about. It may sound cheesy? But I think its so cute & honest.
The marbled layers symbolize the layers within me — both dark & light. The asymmetrical shapes and the dents, which give the pieces their organic form, reflect imperfection, the unexpected indents in what I might hop to perfect but even with these flaws, they remain to be comforting, interesting with a purpose/curiosity to commune with.
Mixed babies also speak to the mix of my skin color and my muses’, the the complexities and layers of earth and matter — both spiritual & material — and to the intricacies of the human condition, with all its feelings, sensations, triggers, and glimmers. They are all just lil mixed babies.
